Internet Service in the Philippines

Internet is pretty slow and relatively expensive in the Philippines. PLDT, Philippines Long Distance Telecome, is the major play in the market. PLDT is known for stable connection but infamous for poor service at the same time. Monthly charge for 1.5 Mbps speed is 999 peso. I'm using 3Mbps service and it's not bad. I can watch Youtube videos without buffering; I'm not talking about HD quality videos, of course. Downside of PLDT DSL is that it comes with landline and it's not free. Homephone is 700 peso per month. So if you apply for PLDT 3Mbps you will end up paying 2,700 peso per month. Another thing to know before you sign up for PLDT; installation takes about 1 month. One month. Thing twice before you call PLDT if you can't this long.

Alternative to PLDT is SkyCable. I've never used Skycable but it seems to be gaining popularity.
