I say this is something you don't want to miss in the Philippines. However, it's not something you want to see every year. It's the event everyone participates in. Literally every household brings their share of fireworks and shoots them in the sky at the same time. Since the whole nation enjoys shooting fireworks the is not control over safety matters. Liquor Ban for the Election day

May 13, 2013 is election day in the Philippines. Well...you might think 'What does it have to do with Liquor Ban?" Yeah, that's what I thought. Ban on drinking beer might help keep people sober for the day but why? The election day regulations have been traced back to an attempt to stop the 19th century tradition of corrupt political bosses trading votes for free booze. According to Comelec, Commission on Election, the ban should help prevent alcohol-induced crimes and incidents. What do you think about Liquor Ban? You'll see this kind of toilet everywhere in the Philippines. Basins are just big enough to wash your hands. A sink and a toilet, two essential items in the bathroom, are the only things you can see here. You might have to put your brush and toothpaste on top of the water tank lid. Don't forget to bring your own toilet paper as well. BYO-toilet paper is common sense here.

Sari Sari Store

A sari-sari is a local version of a modern convenience store in the Philippines. The word Sari means variety or many. Like the word says, Sari-sari stores are found everywhere in the Philippines. Unlike 7 11 or Mini Stop franchise stores, Sari-sari stores are privately owned and often are an annex of the house rather than a separate building.

Since not all communities have a access to big shopping malls or modern types of convenience stores, Sari-sari stores are essential to local people's life. Just like 7/11, things sold in Sari-sari stores come in small sizes. Single serving shampoo or tourist size soap are found here. Instead of buying one pack of cigarette, people often buy one or two sticks of cigarette for small change.

Each store has a tiny window which is just big enough for the vendors to hand out what customers buy. For protection measure, iron bars are used for most Sari-sari stores.
